In this snippet of a story
We sat on grass in sunlight
and it warmed your face and skin
just like mine
The shadows fell in the same places,
the corners of your eyes
tired and more weathered
but still so much like mine
And we smiled together then
for the thousandth time
your memories of old laughter
trapped in creases just like mine
Holding that connection in my hands
I want to only see
the brightness of that moment
yours and mine
But there are deeper lines unshared
in snapshots we can’t hold
and although their silence haunts you too
they are always only mine.
