You love me for both of us

I can see you’re not a doctor
there’s a light behind your eyes
that dares to search
beyond what’s broken,
leaving space for what you find.

You keep my hand in yours
and you love me for the both of us
you hold me in the dark
while I’m fading away
Your love is ever growing
yet the spectres come and go
and I can’t hold you tight enough
to feel like I am safe.

The spectres come and go
and I’m fading away.
I know you feel the fear
that this time I’ve gone too far
retreating to my depths
where none can reach me.
And your fear is for the both of us
because we can’t ignore
How every time I fight
I lose a little more.

You never hesitate
to shoulder the weight
and walk alongside
me with my heavy secrets.
You will me to keep writing,
keep breathing
and keep fighting
You’re holding boundless hope
for the both of us.

You hold onto our hope
for some future possibility
But my fingers grasp the pen
that writes over and again
An end, an end, an end
to the story you defend.

Still you keep my hand in yours
and love me for the both of us
you hold me in the dark
while I’m fading away
Your love is ever growing
but the spectres come and go
and I can’t hold you tight enough
to feel like am safe.

I know you need to hope
that your warmth can secure me
And it breaks me that the spectres come and go.
But you love me for the both of us
and I can’t ask for more.
I just can’t keep asking you for more.

  1. I generally don’t like poetry, but I like yours. How does that work?
